During day game drives there is also afternoon game drives running from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM in which animals are much spotted around water sources like Lake Ihema and Lake Shakani gathering for drinking. Night game drives are conducted from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, this is an exciting opportunity to spot wild predators (lions, leopards) hunting the bushbabies using spotlights.

Unforgettable primates tracking encounters; Rwanda is a home of several primate species hosted by lush, thick and dense rainforests in different regions of the country. Top Rwanda’s primate species include; gorillas, chimpanzees, golden monkeys, colobus monkeys, silver monkeys among others. The above primates are hosted by the bamboo forests (Volcanoes national park), Nyungwe, Cyamudongo and Gishwati forests (Nyungwe and Gishwati Mukula national parks).

  • Gorilla trekking encounters: These are conducted in Volcanoes national park located in northwestern region of the country. The park is a home to an approximate population of 300 to 380 mountain gorillas which is nearly half of the entire Virunga population contributing 30% of world’s gorilla population. The park has over 12 fully habituated gorilla families and each one hosting over 10 to 40 members ready for daily trekking. The gorilla trekking experience takes 2 to 5 hours depending on their location plus one magical hour spent with the primates once they are found.
  • Chimpanzee tracking experiences: They are conducted in two major national parks that is to say Nyungwe and Gishwati Mukula national park. The country is a home to an approximate population of 500 and 1,000 individuals. The large population of over 500 chimpanzees are hosted by Nyungwe National Park in southwestern region of the country, while a smaller growing population of 35 to 40 individuals is hosted by the newly restored Gishwati Mukura National Park in northwestern region of the country. The tracking experience of chimpanzees takes 3 to 5 hours depending on where they nested the previous night plus the exact one hour spent with the primates once they are located.
  • Golden monkey tracking: Volcanoes National Park is the most reliable and popular park for golden monkey trekking in Rwanda. The park features two habituated troops with a population of 80 to 100 members. The largest and most visited troop moves place to place inside the bamboo forests at the slopes of Mount Sabyinyo. The experience involves a gentle 30-minute to 2-hour hike through the bamboo forests depending on the primate’s location. Once they are found, only one magical hour will be allowed to spend with these endangered monkeys.
